Born in Chatfield, township May 26, 1861, he was the son of George and Mary Magdalene Bohl Leonhard. He was twice married, first to Matilda Schimpf on Jan. 7, 1885. She died on Sept. 6, 1900, and on March 15, 1905, he was married to Rosa Schimpf, a sister of his first wife. She preceded him in death August 17, 1925.
Surviving are three children, Ed S. Leonhard and Sylvanus Leonhard of Liberty township, and Edith, wife of Samuel Heid of Bucyrus township; a brother, C. Fred Leonhardt, Bucyrus; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Shafer, Chatfield township and Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Columbus, seven granchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred and Wilbert, two brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Leonhardt was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran church of Chatfield.
Private funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the Leonhard home and at the Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Rev. Paul Dornbirer will officiate and burial will be made in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Leonhard home Thursday evening.
