Rex attended Ursuline Academy and later graduated from Wilmington Friends School. He enlisted in the Navy as a Bosun's Mate in 1945. He later attended Parks Aeronautical School of Engineering, and then received his bachelor's degree from University of Delaware and his law degree from Washington and Lee University. He went on to form Kaiser Yachts in 1960 to design and build semi-custom cruising sailboats before he retired in 1985. The most popular design was the "Gale Force" of which he produced 35 that continue to be sailed around the world today.
Rex was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Kaiser and his daughter Annette Kaiser Voorhes. He is survived by his wife Claire (Brown) Kaiser, his 4 children; John Kaiser of Annapolis, MD [died 2021], William Kaiser of Manchester, MA, David and Jennifer Kaiser of Mattapoisett,, MA and Aimee and Paul Satterfield of Nottingham, PA. He also had 4 nieces and nephews; Nicholas J. Kaiser of Short Hills, NJ, Robert J. Kaiser of Michigan, Donald R. Kaiser of Potomac, MD and Elizabeth A. Kaiser of Rehoboth, DE. He has 11 grandchildren: Tim, Kieran, Brendan, Brian, Maeve, Una and Mary Satterfield; Kate and Emma Voorhes; and Ned and Sarah Kaiser.
In addition to his love of life, food of all types, music of all types (Broadway being his favorite), skiing, tennis, squash and sailing, he will forever be known as a delightful storyteller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Thursday January 14, 2016 at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
