Born in Greece on April 15, 1915, George D. Samaras was a World War II veteran, serving with the infantry, with final rank of Captain. He was a part of the Invasion of Normandy, wounded in France on July 20, 1944, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Samaras was employed for many years with B.F. Goodrich Co. as an inspector. He was a member of American Legion Garfield Post.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Jennie (LeBar); a brother, Bill; and sister, Sue; plus many nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters, Olympia Kianos, Agnes Belushi and Agatha Kekela; plus brother, Thomas, who was killed during World War II, and Elias (Leo), on Nov. 2, 2001.
