Most records indicate that Francis was born in Choctaw County, Mississippi. By 1870, still in Choctaw County, he had become a farmer and was living next door to Daniel Joseph Cambell and his wife. Their daughter Elizabeth (Eliza) married Francis in 1871. Eliza died in 1900. At some point after 1910, Francis married a woman named Annie. Francis was living in Webster County at the time, where he owned a farm.

On January 4, 1916, at age 67, Francis executed his Last Will and Testament. He left his entire undivided estate to Annie and to the youngest of his nine children: Floyd, 26, and Durward, 16. Floyd eventually went into the grocery business, from which he retired. He died suddenly in 1961, at a medical facility where he had gone for a checkup. He was 69 years old and had never lived anywhere but in the Stewart area.

FM's parents were William and Frances Mitchell Richardson. According to the 1850 Census, both were born in Alabama -- William around 1829/30 and Frances in either 1831 or 32. She died before 1855 or 1877 (the record is not clear), having borne two children by William. The other child was Billy F. Richardson.

William's second wife was Nancy Crocker. They had several children, all of whom were Francis Marion and Billy's half-siblings. It's believed that William died in 1862.

Photo #2: Francis Marion's first grandchild, Vonnie Marion Lattimore, 1898 - 1975. Mack Daniel Richardson, the oldest of William amd Eliza's children, was Vonnie's father.
