He wasn't expected to survive because he was early and so small. His grandmother put him in a shoe box in the oven to keep him warm. He showed how tough he was and his desire to live he had. He graduated in 1954 from Cambridge High School. He worked for a short time in Lincoln, NE doing construction. On August 14, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Miller, in Cambridge, NE. They made their home in the Denver area. His wife, Shirley passed away in December, 1995.

For nearly 40 years Dick worked for the railroad as a switchman, brakeman, and conductor. He worked most of the time out of Denver. When time allowed, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had many woodworking projects including making cabinets, tables and other furniture. In 1985 he bought a farm south of Fleming, CO that helped to satisfy his itch, as he always wanted to be a farmer. His greatest joy was driving a tractor in the fields. He always enjoyed life and always had fun. Most days he enjoyed listening to or watching a ball game. He liked football and baseball but said he couldn't decide which he liked better. In June, 2000 he married Jackie Taylor Wright in Fleming, CO. They enjoyed traveling on bus trips and a cruise to Alaska. She passed away in September, 2013.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Larry) Castrup of Brush; his grandson, Kevin (Kayla) Castrup of Brush; and great grandchildren Kaden, Konrad, and Kalli of Brush. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (Kathie) Wright of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Lefty Wright of Cambridge, NE; his wife Shirley, and his wife Jackie; his sisters, Patricia (Ken) Cerveny of Lincoln, NE, and Roberta Wright of Littleton, CO.
