On 26 JUN 1853 in Tipton County IN he wed Mariah Jane Alexander, born 13 JAN 1837 died 16 JAN 1914, daughter of John M. & Nancy J. Alexander. Nancy J. Alexander born in Ohio about 1810 died 25 NOV 1887. John M. Alexander born KY died 1865 in IN, then widow Nancy migrated to Modale, Harrison County IA with her children & their spouses in 1871. Two of Elon & Mariah Sample's daughters wed HESTER brothers.
