Casper Hartman, a widely-known resident of the county, died on Saturday night at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. William Spangler, 104 Coral street. For several months Mr. Hartman had been in very critical health from complications of diseases. Deceased was born in Germany. He was in his seventy-second year. When still a young man he came to America, and has resided in this county about fifty years. For fourteen years he lived at Rocky Springs, and twenty-two years ago he purchased the island in the Susquehanna river that bears his name. The place soon became popular as a camping ground and for years it has been the resort of numerous clubs and private parties. Mr. Hartman was a most hospitable man and popular with a wide circle of friends. He was a cooper by trade, and worked at the trade in earlier life. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the beneficial society. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Spangler. (The Semi-Weekly New Era - Sept 25, 1901)
