4th Earl of Angus. He was the son of William Douglas, 2nd Earl of Angus, and his wife, Margaret Hay. He married Isabel Sibbald, daughter of Sir John Sibbald. According to "The Peerage," he died on 14 November 1462, though he was also reported to have died on 12 March 1462/3. He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Angus in 1446. In 1449 and 1459, he helped negotiate treaties with England. In 1451, he was Scotland's ambassador to England. During the Douglas rebellion of 1454, he adherred to King James II, and was with the king when he (the king) died in 1460 at the Siege of Roxburgh Castle. He placed the crown on the head of King James III. In 1460 he led the party called the 'Old Lords' during the minority of King James III. He fought in the Battle of Alnwick in 1462, achieving a victory over the English. With Isabel Sibbald, he had four children:
