Born September 16, 1944 in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Stephen J. Sr. and Emma Vorum Biro. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Class of 1962 and had attended Montana State College on a football scholarship. He was a past president of the Beaver Valley Football Officials Association for three years and had been a referee for both football and basketball for 22 years. He had also coached the Beaver Falls Midgets Pop Warner football team and was head coach for two years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Chippewa Township Fire Department for five years. He had been employed at the former Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products Company from 1964 until 1987. He was then employed at Standard Steel Specialty Company in West Mayfield and for Koppel Steel TMK IPSCO where he been a continuous caster operator until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen Mennell Biro, five children and their spouses, Shelly and Ron Mann, Chippewa Township, Julie and Brian Krull, Maryland, Stephen J. III and Michelle Biro, Brighton Township, Christine and Michael Kinger, Hershey, PA, Sean and Christie Biro, Mars, PA, 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and expecting 3 more great-grandchildren, and a nephew and his wife, Tim and Daisy Mondell, Winchester, VA.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, where the service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lee P. Bittner officiating. Interment will follow in the Beaver Falls Cemetery, Chippewa Township.
