Dot was born in the Garden Head District on February 24, 1917. She grew up on the farm and after completing her high school traveled to Moose Jaw for college. She studied to be a teacher and returned to teach at the Glengarry, Stonepile, Gull Lake and Aldag schools. Dot met and fell in love with Peter Aadland and they were married July 10, 1946. Family always came first with Dot. She soon left her teaching career to become a full-time homemaker. Dot and Peter had six children. They lived in Dollard for three years before moving to Shaunavon in 1957. Following in her mother’s footsteps Dot was an excellent cook, always having some baked treat ready for the kids when they returned from school. Never giving up her love of teaching, she stayed involved by substitute teaching from time to time and being a member of the parent teacher association. Dot was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked at Leach’s Clothing Store for years. Dot and a close group of friends formed a Birthday Party Club and enjoyed celebrating their special days with cake and coffee. She had a great faith in God. She enjoyed going to church and was a member of the United Church Women. You would often see her at the piano playing her favorite hymns. Often the house was filled with the sound of old time tunes, each taking a turn on the piano, violin, accordion and banjo. Music was a big part of family get togethers.

In December 2001 she moved into the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre where she spent her final years.

Dot was predeceased by her parents Mina and Ken Sinclair, her husband Peter on February 11, 2003, daughter-in-law Edna, sisters Pat Buck (Art) and Marg Butler (Vern), brothers, Jock (Herta), Mike, Harold, Frazer (Ada) and Syd and brother-in-law Louis Aldag.

She is survived by her sons Darcy of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, James of Thompson, Manitoba and Ron (Shauna) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, her daughters Patsy Chaisson (Colin) of Calgary, Alberta, Mina Auger (Laurent) of Thompson, Manitoba and Judy Aadland of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, her sister Alice Aldag of Shaunavon, sisters-in-law, Mike’s wife Helen of Brooks, Alberta and Syd’s wife Joyce of Bruderheim, Alberta, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
