His second marriage was to widow Augusta Priestly (nee Trench) on 10 June 1869 in Dresden, Germany. They remained childless.

The death occurred at Florence on Saturday of Canon Charles Childers, uncle of the late Mr Hugh C. E. Childers. The deceased clergyman, who was in his 90th year, was third son of Mr John Walbanke Childers, of Cantley, Doncaster.
