When Anna was young, she supported the wartime effort by replacing male workers who were in the American military in factories during World War II. She attended Pratt Art Institute of New York City, but also studied at Queens College and Eastern Business School of New York. She spoke Italian, Spanish, and a bit of French which helped with her business careers.
After the war, she worked for United Artists freelance and on Wall Street where she met her husband. On September 8, 1951, she married Peter Conrad Alonso. They conceived four children in New York, Bernadette, Alicia, Pier, and Peter M. Alonso.
The family left Long Island and moved to Lancaster, OH in 1963 where Peter joined the International Division of Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation. Anna assisted with their company, PCA World Inc. in 1990-2000. She also volunteered in community activities at Saint Bernadette’s Elementary School, church fund raisers & charities creating special quilts and crocheting for the soldiers & at the nursing home of Mother Angelina McCrory Manner in Columbus, Ohio.
In 2001, special music was created by her uncle, Orazio De Maio for Anna & Peter's 50th wedding anniversary upon their visit to Europe. He was a concert pianist and maestro in Rome & established a school of music and ballet, Centro Danza Tersicore of Latina. Her cousin, Rodolfo De Maio continues this legacy today.
Anna is survived by her husband, Peter; son, Peter Matthew (Michelle Morgan) Alonso, & children, Peter & Alex Alonso; 3 daughters, Alicia Alonso; Pier (Glenn) Burgess & children, Russell (Courtney) Burgess, Nichole (Christopher) Urbanus, and Peter Burgess; first daughter, Bernadette Teresa Todd succumbed to breast cancer in 2003, but her husband, Dennis Todd and their children Kristin, Katie, Kyle and Cyanne Todd survive; Anna's brother, Anthony (Antoinette) Pirraglia & children, Anthony, Bart, Benjamin, and Claudia and their grandchildren; and Anna's sister, Mrs. Mary (Pirraglia) Smith and her son, Robert Smith who reside in NY & NJ.
