George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus was the son of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas and Margaret Stewart, Countess of Angus. He married Lady Mary Stuart, the daughter of Robert III King of Scotland and Annabella Drummond. A contract of marriage was signed for the couple on May 24, 1397. George Douglas received the Earldom of Angus so he could maintain his royal wife. The couple had issue: William Douglas, 2nd Earl of Angus, Elizabeth, and Margaret.

George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus was created 1st Earl of Angus [Scotland] on 9 April 1389. He fought in the Battle of Homildon Hill on 14 September 1402, where he was captured by the English. He died after Sept. 1402 in England from the Bubonic Plague.
