Born Anne-Marie Bernier in Lion-d'Angers, entering the Soeurs de Saint-Charles of Angers in February 1887, she received the religious habit and the name of Gertrude-Marie on June 21 oft he following year. Originally assigned to teach classes, poor health forced her to retire to Saint-Charles and eventually to her parents' home. A patient, charitable and mystic woman, known to have foretold among others the conversion of Caldey and Saint Bride's, she passed away after a long illness leaving several spiritual notes that remain appreciated to this day. Her grave at the Cimetière de l'Ouest of Angers, in which she was placed in 1913 after being originally interred in a common grave, remains sought by many.
