Lonnie was born in San Fernando and moved to Santa Clarita in 1954. The home he grew up in is known as the Old Newhall Ranch House and currently sits on the Historical Society's land at Main and Railroad.
He road home made go-carts through the dirt roads and hills of Newhall Ranch when it was still a feedlot. He raced his 56 Chevy and 69 Chevy Malibu on Newhall Ave. long before Valencia Blvd. Existed. In the late 60's, you could hear his laughter and feel his massive presence on the campus of Wm. S. Hart High where he played football. During his school days and throughout his life he was known for his huge heart, strong sense of fairness and extremely sharp wit.
Lonnie graduated from Hart and held onto his strong values and family roots. He married his life long sweetheart and always referred to his daughter Jenny and sons, Beau and Justin as his
greatest accomplishment.

Lonnie is survived by his one true love, Jody, his loving children, Jenny and Roy Bjorklund, Beau Cherry and Nicole Lipka, Justin and Vanessa Cherry, his grandsons, Dylan, Tyler and Kasey Bjorklund, Jackson Isaiah Cherry, Sister Judy Carney, nieces and nephews, his loving mom-in-law, Genevieve, Best friend Marv Aardahl and countless friends and loved ones
