Patricia Munson Dies of Infantile Paralysis at 19

Miss Patricia K. Munson, 19, of 100 Addison Drive, DeWitt, who was stricken with infantile paralysis six years ago, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Patricia and her older sister, Cheryl, fell victims to the disease only three days apart in November 1953.

Early in 1957, they were flown to Warm Springs, Ga., by an Air Force plane to undergo extensive examinations in an evaluation of their individual cases.

The mercy flight was arranged after local physicians declared their conditions to be an emergency situation.

Her sister, Cheryl, died April 25, 1960.

A graduate of Jamesville-DeWitt High School, Miss Munson attended Syracuse University by receiving courses at home.

She was a member of Sub Deb and Alpha Mu sororities, and DeWitt Community Church.

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald L. Munson of DeWitt; and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in DeWitt Community Church, the Rev. Alexander Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
