Jean Funk, of Birmingham, AL, passed away on October 5, 2011. Born on June 6, 1930, in Springfield, MO, to Edwin L. and Gladys Mooney, Jean grew up in Rolla, MO, and lived in Birmingham for the past 21 years. Jean was well-known for her artistic creativity in sewing, costume design, interior decorating, and in particular for her skills in flower arranging. Always on the lookout for unique items and bargains, she loved garage and estate sales. Jean never met a stranger, and friends soon became part of the family. Her love of life and quick wit will be deeply missed. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 63 years, Harry C. Funk; her children, Mark Funk (Carolyn Reid), Colleen Pfefferie (Bill), Cindy Phurrough (Tony), Debbie Spelman (Jack), and Cherie Galantis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2011 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 380396, Birmingham, AL 35238.
