Painter. After being taught his art by Cabanel, Debat-Ponson became famous for portraying French politicians and painting historical scenes. In order to have Captain Alfred Dreyfus rehabilitated, he exhibited his allegorical painting "La Vérité sortant du puits" ("Truth coming out of the well") at the 1898 Salon. His grandson Michel Debré became General Charles de Gaulle's Prime Minister.
