Norman Maltby was a native of Oneida
county, New York, and was in the sixty-third
year of his age at the time of his
death. Mr. Maltby had been in the mercantile
business ever since early manhood,
with the exception of a short time while
in Henry county, Missouri, to which place
he moved from Rome, New York, in 1865.
From Henry county be moved to this city,
and ever since he has been here he has
been engaged in mercantile pursuits.
In April, 1875, he was nominated by the
Democracy of Sedalia for Mayor, without
opposition, and elected by an unprecedented
majority—many of the opposition voted
for him on account of his many sterling
qualities of head and heart, and on
account of his well known character for
honesty and integrity. His administration
of the city's affairs reflected credit upon
the man and upon the party which was in-
strumental in placing him in power.
Mr. Maltby was a conscientious Christian,
and a devout and zealous member of
Calvary (Episcopal; church, this city. He
leaves behind a widow and family of
grown children to mourn his death.
Mrs. Powell, (nee Miss Lucy Maltby) who
resides at Chicago, was telegraphed last
evening, of the death of her father. The
telegram was answered this morning that
it was impossible for her to be here. -The
family will all be present, with this ex-
ception, at the funeral, which will take
place at his residence at 10:30 A.M. to
morrow.
