Sister Elizabeth Theresa Schindler (formerly Sister Mary Castella), 86, a nun in the Society of Precious Blood, died Sunday at Dayton, OH. Born May 23, 1900, in Bryant, IN, the daughter of Gustav and Margaret (Laux) Schindler. Sister Elizabeth entered the sisterhood in 1924. During her 62 years with the order, she was a supervisor for the cooks for the Bishop of Cincinnati. She also was an organist while serving as Directress of Sisters. From 1929 - 1940, she worked at Old St. Mary's Seminary, Cincinnati, OH, as sacristan. Much of her career was working in seminaries including St. Gregory Seminary, Cincinnati; St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, IN; St. Charles Seminary, Carthagena; and the Chancery at St. Louis Church, Cincinnati. From 1969 - 1973 she was cafeteria supervisor at the Salem Heights Motherhouse. Aug. 11, 1974, she celebrated her golden anniversary. Burial will be in the church cemetery of the Precious Blood Convent. Since 1979 she lived at the Motherhouse in semi-retirement. Sister Elizabeth had many cousins living with her at the Motherhouse, including Precious Blood Sisters; Sister Mary DePaul Miller, Sister Magdalen Miller, Sister Agnella Laux all of the Salem Heights Motherhouse, and Precious Blood Sister Susanna Laux of Miamisburg, OH.
