Lionella Bruno, born Lionella Terradura Vagnarelli in Gubbio, Italy to Gustavo, an intellectual, and a well-known lawyer in the Perugian Forum and Laura, a beautiful and intelligent woman, who descended from the bloodline of the Marquis del Gallo di Roccagiovine. Laura had five children: Walkiria, Lionella, Enrico, Araldo, and also Serenella who died at birth. Laura herself died at the age of 29. The family resided in a large wing of the castle of the Count of Urbino in Gubbio. At the age of 17 Lionella became a WWII Freedom Fighter in the Italian Resistance heroically fighting the occupying Nazis and Fascist factions. In the mountains between the regions of Umbria and Marche, she joined a partisan group belonging to the V Brigade Garibaldi Pesaro with her sister Walkiria known as the "Panichi" group. The principle task of the group was to sabotage and create diversions on roads used by motorized German convoys. Known as "Fury" among the partisans for her strong personality and red locks, Lionella was decorated for her heroism by both the Italian and British Military for guiding allied troops behind heavily fortified enemy lines. After the war, Lionella immigrated to the United States and married Thomas Bruno, a master machinist and a WWII Army veteran who served in the South Pacific as a tank destroyer. Together they had two sons, Thomas W. Bruno and Mark Bruno. Lionella was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1990. Lionella will always be remembered for her feisty and challenging personality along with her love for Italian opera. Private services were held by the immediate family.
