1st Lieutenant Norman Whitfield Oyster was an observer (bombardier) in the 96th Aero Squadron during WWI. This Squadron was the first in the United States Air Service to have bombardment as its sole mission. The Squadron flew Breguet 14 Bombers was based at the Amanty Airdrome in France. Lieutenant Oyster was assigned to the 96th on October 8, 1918. He transferred from the Squadron on November 8, 1918, shortly before the Armistice.
