She first married Edson R. Crawford on 4-18-1866 in Lake, Illinois. He had recently returned from the Civil War. They later moved to Osage, Kansas, where he first worked as a farmer. By 1900, they had moved to Parsons City, Kansas, where Edson worked as a realtor. They lived at 1312 Crawford Avenue. They had two children: a daughter named Leda, and another child who died at birth.
Edson died on Jan 9, 1906. Arta later moved to California. When she was 70 years old, she got married again, in 1916, to Alfred M. Judson. He was 71 years old, and had been married twice before. They got married in San Bernadino. They soon moved to Pasadena, where they bought a house a 336 E. Washington Street.
Back in 1907, Alfred had been admitted to an old soldier's home in Kansas. He was later transferred to the old soldier's home in Los Angeles (called "Sawtelle"). He was frequently released from there, only to be readmitted again. He was readmitted on 5-5-1913. He married Arta in 1916, while he was still a resident of the old soldier's home. He was discharged from the home again, on 8-1-1918. But he was then readmitted to the home on 10-24-1919, and then discharged once more, on 12-4-1923. That was the last time he was discharged from the home. He died at his home in Pasadena, in 1927.
According to his obituary, he was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena. But his remains were apparently later re-interred in Kansas, next to his second wife Margaret.
Arta was seen still living in that house, in the 1930 Census Report. Living with her was her brother Demott, her sister Velma (who was a widow; her husband Benjamin Mouser had died), and her grandson Myron Steele (son of her daughter Leda, who had married Myron Steele).
